For Those Tears I Died

For Those Tears I Died

Words and Music by Marsha Stevens

You said You’d come and share all my sorrows,
You said You’d be there for all my tomorrows;
I came so close to sending You away,
But just like You promised You came there to stay;
I just had to pray!

And Jesus said, “Come to the water, stand by My side,
I know you are thirsty, you won’t be denied;
I felt ev’ry teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died.”

Your goodness so great I can’t understand,
And, dear Lord, I know that all this was planned;
I know You’re here now, and always will be,
Your love loosed my chains and in You I’m free;
But Jesus, why me?

And Jesus said, “Come to the water, stand by My side,
I know you are thirsty, you won’t be denied;
I felt ev’ry teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died.”

Jesus, I give You my heart and my soul,
I know that without God I’d never be whole;
Savior, You opened all the right doors,
And I thank You and praise You from earth’s humble shores;
Take me, I’m Yours.

And Jesus said, “Come to the water, stand by My side,
I know you are thirsty, you won’t be denied;
I felt ev’ry teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died.”

    I do not see how this song is even Scriptural, I hope that Christ died for my sins, not my tears. My tears…seriously, it sounds good and emotional, but there is no depth here at all

    Isaiah 53
    1 Who has believed our report?
    And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
    2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
    And as a root out of dry ground.
    He has no form or comeliness;
    And when we see Him,
    There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
    3 He is despised and rejected by men,
    A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
    And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
    He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
    4 Surely He has borne our griefs
    And carried our sorrows;

    Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
    Smitten by God, and afflicted.
    5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
    He was bruised for our iniquities;
    The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
    And by His stripes we are healed.

    This song is filled with meaning and depth for me, with more than any other Christian song/hymn… for some of us our lives have been filled with so much sorrow and loss and grief and when you are down so low and all alone to know that God cares about your tears and died for YOU personally, no matter how unworthy you feel you are, well, that means more than anything – or atleast that’s how it was/is for me. When all your life you’ve struggled to just survive and you feel so lost and that not even God can love or care about you – because of all the horrible things that were done to you and all the other things that have happened because of it all, to know that God loves you as an individual, to know that He’s the same God that helped teh prositute at the well, that had the little children come to him, that visited the crooked tax collector and loved them all… and that God loves you and is there for you too NO MATTER WHAT, well that’s what this song means to me… the funny thing is I never learned this song as an adult or even a school-age child; I learned it from going to coffee-break/story-hour (mom’s bible study group) when i was only 4 or 5… and this is the song that I have clung to so many times and has told me each time, through the tears that alwasy come to my eyes and despite getting some of the words of the different verses mixed up; everytime i know that I’m not actually alone with my tears, because He is there too.

    sorry if that doesn’t really make too much sense, I don’t normally comment on websites like this but felt i needed to; even if only to tell Him.

    Not scripturally based? Have you ever read a Bible?
    “I will never leave or you or forsake you.”
    “If you believe in Me, out of your belly shall flow Rivers Living Waters”
    Isaiah 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
    Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
    Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
    Psalm 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
    Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
    “If the Son of Man makes you free then you are free indeed”.
    This song is all scripture, you just have to be familiar with Scripture, that’s all. Press into the Word of God, it is food for the soul and when you fill you soul with His Word then you will be able to recognize it in a song. God Bless you.
